In 1993 the world-renowned mezzo soprano Marilyn Horne founded
The Marilyn Horne Foundation, Inc.
(MHF)
to breathe new life into the vocal recital as an art form
across the
The MHF Mission Statement:
To encourage, support and preserve the art of the vocal
recital through the presentation of recitals and related educational
activities in communities across the
Since its founding until May 2010, the MHF, through the presentation
of recitals, residencies, concerts, radio broadcasts, educational
outreach and song commissions, has impacted the following:

114 exceptionally gifted young singers who were selected via
audition and presented by the MHF in recitals and education programs
around the country;
·
66,000+ children across the
·
70,607 audience members attending the MHF recitals and master
classes;
·
3 million+ radio listeners nationwide via syndicated broadcasts;
·
420,000 radio listeners annually in the Tri-State area via local
broadcasts – and tens of thousands more via international webcasts;
·
29 states with 348 recitals of new vocalists;
·
54 concert presenters with whom the MHF partnered to bring song and
gifted young artists to their communities
·
165 college students from leading national music schools selected by
audition to participate in the MHF’s public master classes;
·
10 composers commissioned by the MHF to write original songs/song
cycles to be world-premiered by MHF artists.
As of July 1, 2010, the programs of the MHF become part of the Weill
Music Institute at Carnegie Hall.
With Marilyn Horne as the Artistic Advisor, these programs will
continue the work of the MHF and will be part of the Marilyn Horne
Legacy at Carnegie Hall.

vocal recital series, which will be folded into the Neighborhood
Concert Series (free concerts in NYC’s 5 boroughs). The new
